From 2019 to 2020, Mark T. Esper was Secretary of Defense, and from 2017 to 2019, he was Secretary of the Army. He was a notable West Point alumnus who served in the military for twenty-one years, including a combat deployment in the 1991 Gulf War.
While working as a political appointee on Capitol Hill and at the Pentagon, Esper received a PhD from George Washington University. He’s also worked for a Fortune 100 technology company, a famous think tank, and various industry associations and commissions. Esper has received numerous civilian and military honours and serves on several public policy and corporate boards.
