Agneepath Scheme Indian Army. The government introduced the “Agnipath” initiative on Tuesday, with the goal of transforming the armed services. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the plan, calling it a “transformative programme” that will give the armed services a more youthful appearance.

Under the Agnipath scheme, Indian youth will be able to serve in the armed forces as Agniveers,” Rajnath Singh stated.

He went on to say that the Agnipath initiative was put in place to bolster India’s security. After four years of service, the ‘Agnives’ will be granted a good salary package and an exit retirement package, according to the military minister.

This move is intended to reduce the government’s increasing wage and pension expenditures, but there are concerns that it would have a negative impact on the military’s professionalism, military ethos, and fighting spirit. Agniveer would be a part of this future-ready soldier, according to Lieutenant General Anil Puri.

The Agnipath initiative, according to Army Chief of Staff General Manoj Pande, aims to achieve a paradigm shift in military recruitment. He stated that the initiative will aid in achieving the best possible balance of youth and experience in the Army.

What is Agnipath scheme?

Agnipath is a merit-based recruitment process for soldiers, airmen, and sailors across India. The programme allows young people to join the military forces’ regular cadre. Those who are hired under the ‘Agnipath’ programme will be referred to as ‘Agniveers.’ Agniveers will be registered for a four-year service tenure, including training.

Only 25% of the Agniveers will be maintained or re-enlisted in the regular cadre after four years, based on merit, willingness, and medical fitness. They will then be re-elected for another 15-year term. The first four years of contract service are unlikely to be taken into account when calculating eventual pensionary benefits.

The remaining 75% of Agniveers would be demobilised, receiving a “Seva Nidhi” package of Rs 11-12 lakh, partially paid by their monthly payments, as well as skill certificates and bank loans to assist them in finding new jobs.

Recruitment Condition

  • Candidates will be enlisted for a four-year service period under the applicable service laws.
  • A centralised, transparent screening process based on merit and documented service excellence.
  • To enlist in the regular cadre, 100% of candidates can apply on a volunteer basis.
  • Meanwhile, this year, 46,000 Agniveers will be recruited.

Salary : Agniveer Scheme

Agniveers will receive Rs 30,000 per month as a stipend. It all starts with a package of Rs 4.76 lakh. Agniveer is eligible to volunteer after four years. All Agniveers who achieve martyrdom will receive full recompense for their unserved service years. The scheme will boost war readiness by selecting the top candidates through a rigorous and open selection process.

Seva Nidhi : Agniveer Scheme

After four years, up to 25% of Agniveers would be selected as regular cadre based on a central, transparent  procedure. To join the regular cadre, 100% of candidates can apply on a volunteer basis. They will be eligible for the same accolades, medals, and insurance benefits as regular soldiers, airmen, and sailors. After four years, a corpus of Rs 10.04 lakhs plus accrued interest is exempt from Income Tax.

Death Compensation : Agniveer Scheme

Rs 48 lakhs in non-contributory life insurance. Ex Gratia payment of Rs 44 lakhs for death caused by service. Pay for the portion of the meal that has not been consumed for up to four years, including the ‘Seva Nidhi’ component.

Disability Compensation : Agniveer Scheme

Compensation is determined by medical authorities based on the severity of the disability.
One-time ex-gratia of Rs 44/25/15 lakhs for total disability of 100%, 75%, and 50%, respectively.
