Batuman has a talent for somehow making the cosmos appear like the kind and intelligent literary seminar you wish it were. You will be won over by this book in a million tiny ways. New York Times. The beloved protagonist Selin’s journey for self-knowledge is continued in this bestseller novel by the critically acclaimed author of The Idiot as she travels overseas and pushes the boundaries of her newly acquired adulthood. New Book Published Either Or Elif Batuman
Selin is the most fortunate member of her family because she is the only one who was born in America and was able to attend Harvard. Now in her sophomore year of 1996, Selin is aware that she must make an impact. Understanding the significance of everything that occurred over the summer is the first order of business.
Why did Selin’s mysterious crush, Ivan, help her land that job out in the middle of nowhere in Hungary? Why were there so many other people in the rural areas of Hungary? Why is Ivan’s strange ex-girlfriend suddenly attempting to contact Selin? The plot feels like it belongs in an exciting novel, which is a positive. However, why are crazy abandoned women a common theme in novels?
Selin comes to certain conclusions about the universal significance of parties, booze, and sex, and intends to put them into practice—no matter what the cost—guided by her literature syllabus and by her more experienced and self-assured peers. Travel abroad is the next item on the agenda.
Either/Or is a milestone book by one of our greatest authors, developing with the impulsive logic and intensity of adolescence. Its captivating narrative is hilarious, revelatory, and unforgettably memorable, leaving you with probing questions that linger long after the final page.

Elif Batuman Either/or Review
Elif Batuman writes so well that it almost hurts, yet not enough to make me want to stop reading. Really more than reading her first book, “The Idiot,” “Either/Or” is like seeing a virtuoso perform; I’m enjoying it and pretty sure I’m not even understanding it all.
Similar to traveling to the Louvre or a significant Duomo in Florence, I am conscious that I am in this place but also aware that I need to pay closer attention. But because it’s so amazing, I don’t want to take my time, half-promising that I’ll go back later and really pay attention.
