1. Hero on a Mission: A Path to a Meaningful Life By Donald Miller
In every story, there are four main characters: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characteristics are within every one of us. We’re condemned to fail if we play the victim, and we will not form genuine friendships if we play the villain. However, if we take on the role of hero or guide, our lives will grow. The problematic aspect is being conscious of the persona we are portraying.
In this book, famous author Donald Miller draws on his own experiences to help you figure out if the individual you’re now interacting with is assisting you in living a meaningful life. He breaks out the transformational yet practical approach that helped him go from progressively giving up to quickly getting a fresh perspective on the beauty and meaning of his own life.
2. Finding Your Element: How to Discover Your Talents and Passions and Transform Your Life
Readers will find an inspirational and practical guide to self-improvement, happiness, creativity, and personal transformation from the New York Times bestselling author of The Element. Viking will publish You, Your Child, and School shortly.
The Element, Sir Ken Robinson’s TED presentation and pioneering book, introduced readers to a new concept of self-fulfillment based on the intersection of inherent skills and personal passions. The Element has enthralled readers worldwide and cultivated a fervent fan base for Robinson. The long-awaited companion, a practical guide to locating one’s Element, is now available.
In the Blink of an eye—but aren’t as straightforward as they seem. Why are some people continually good at making decisions while others are consistently bad? Some people follow their instincts and succeed while others make mistakes? How do our brains truly work in the office, the classroom, the kitchen, and the bedroom? And why is it that the best judgments are frequently the most difficult to explain to others?
In Blink, we meet a psychologist who has learned to predict whether a marriage will last based on a few minutes of observing a couple; a tennis coach who can tell when a tennis match is about to end; and a psychologist who has learned to predict whether a marriage will last based on a few minutes of observing a couple.
4. Four Tendencies By Gretchen Rubin
Dave, Debbie, and Di are brothers and sisters. They each have their distinct appearance, but you can tell they belong together as soon as you see them standing next to each other. That’s how Gretchen Rubin’s novels work.
Each one is distinct and conveys a special message, but once you’ve read a few, you’ll notice that they all fit together. The Four Tendencies: The Essential Character Profiles That Reveal How to Make Your Life (And Other People’s Lives, Too) is the most recent addition to that collection.
You’re in luck if you noticed “personality kinds” in the title and assumed it was another book about Jungian psychology-based personality types, and it’s not the case. I’m not convinced that “personality types” is a valid term.
5. James Clear Atomic Habits The life-changing million
I’ve read several books on changing behavior and developing habits, and my new favorite is James Clear’s Atomic Habits. This book stands out because it covers so much material in the greater field of self-improvement while elegantly linking all of these ideas back to the fundamental issue of habits.
Focusing on tiny improvements is one of Atomic Habits’ basic concepts. Although the impact of a 1% improvement per day may look insignificant at first, Clear makes a strong case that thinking minor provides the best results over time for habits. Clear explains, “Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.”
