The Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme was announced by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on 19th of February 2024 as a way to reduce poverty in the state for the coming two years. The statement was made in the Assembly by the minister during the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2024–25. To end poverty, the Tamil Nadu government introduces the Thayumanavar Scheme. This scheme has been given a budget of Rs 27,922 cr. Over the following two years, it seeks to raise approximately five lakh of the poorest households out of poverty.
